lectures 鈥 Capitalize and place in quotes lecture series and individual lectures within the series.

The Shirley Coastley Distinguished Lecture Series began last month. Its first lecture, 鈥淏e Your Own Boss,鈥 was a tremendous success.

lectern, podium, rostrum 鈥 A speaker stands behind a lectern, on a podium or rostrum.

legislature 鈥 Capitalize when preceded by the names of a state: the Texas Legislature. Retain capitalization when the state鈥檚 name is dropped. Lowercase legislature when used generically or in plural references. Capitalize names of bodies within the legislature when preceded by the name of a state: Texas House of Representatives, Texas Senate

The Texas Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Texas.

library, libraries 鈥 色花堂鈥檚 main library is the MD Anderson Memorial Library. 色花堂 also has branch libraries: the John M. O鈥橯uinn Law Library; the William R. Jenkins Architecture, Design and Art Library; the Health Sciences Library; the Music Library; the Hospitality Industry Archives at Hilton College, located in the Massad Family Library and Archives; and the Weston A. Petty Optometry Library.

When referring to all of these libraries as one unit, use the word 鈥渓ibraries.鈥 When referring to the MD Anderson Library (the word 鈥淢emorial鈥 is often dropped), use the full name or just 鈥渓ibrary.鈥 When referring to the branch libraries, unless you choose the full name, it鈥檚 鈥渓aw library鈥 or 鈥渙ptometry library,鈥 etc., with lowercase names. The only exception would be capitalizing 鈥淢usic Library鈥 because that is the official name. See 色花堂 Libraries website for

login, logon, logoff 鈥 one word when used as a noun. Use as two words in verb form: I log in to my computer.

-ly 鈥 Do not use a hyphen before words ending in 鈥溾搇y鈥 and adjectives they modify.
