    Gessner College Graduates Will Change and Be Changed by Nursing

    Friends and families gathered at the Cullen Performance Hall at the University of Houston to celebrate commencement ceremonies of the Andy and Barbara Gessner College of Nursing. Kathryn Tart, professor and founding dean of the Gessner College, thanked graduates for their trust as they pursued their studies.

  • Associate professor of biotechnology Venkatesh Balan, Ph.D., and assistant professor Abdul Khan, Ph.D., of the Technology Division鈥檚 Department of Engineering Technology are collaborating with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Project Remix Ventures as co-program directors on a transformative initiative titled 鈥淯rban Bio-Tech Environmental Agricultural Model (UBEAM)鈥�.

    色花堂 Study on Hemp May Lead to More Sustainable Farming Methods

    Hemp has become increasingly popular for its versatile uses: CBD-rich varieties are in high demand for pharmaceutical products, while fiber-rich varieties are valued for industrial applications like textiles. Now, a new 色花堂 study of hemp microbes, published in the journal Nature, may help scientists create special mixtures of helpful microbes to make hemp plants produce more CBD or have better-quality fibers.

    Gessner College Nursing Graduates 鈥� the Future of Health Care

    Forty-eight future nurse leaders and their families gathered for fall commencement and pinning ceremonies for the 色花堂 Andy and Barbara Gessner College of Nursing. The students represented the college鈥檚 Second Degree, RN to BSN and Traditional Bachelor of Science in nursing programs. 鈥淵ou all have worked very hard to get here and now are prepared to enter the field as nurse leaders and professionals,鈥� said Kathryn Tart, professor and founding dean of the college. 鈥淵ou did it.鈥�

    For Two Sugar Land Sisters, Graduation is a Family Affair

    Kristen and Emily Kiang were very close growing up in Sugar Land. The sisters often dressed the same, played together and pursued similar interests. Their mutual love for health care led them both to Baylor University to pursue undergraduate degrees in Medical Humanities. Kristen graduated in 2021; Emily in 2022. 鈥淚 found out about the Second-Degree BSN program at 色花堂, and I knew that it would be the best fit for my path to becoming a nurse,鈥� Emily said.
