Undergraduate Admissions
Ready to pursue your passion for music? All music majors must and pass an audition on their principal instrument or voice, in addition to meeting admission requirements.
Prospective Freshmen
Requirements:
- Meet all É«»¨Ìà admission requirements
- Pass audition on principal instrument or voice (minimum freshman performance level)
- Complete music theory placement examination
Transfer Students
Requirements:
- 2.50 minimum cumulative GPA in all music courses
- Texas "Field of Study Curriculum for Music" courses transfer if minimum grade point and proficiency requirements are met.
- Composition majors: 3.25 GPA in music theory, aural skills, and composition courses
- Music Theory majors: 3.0 GPA in freshman/sophomore theory and aural skills courses
Requirements:
- 2.0 minimum cumulative GPA
- Successfully complete audition
- No need to reapply to the University
- Returning Students (Readmission): Visit

Required Upload Materials:

- 250-word statement of purpose (educational/career goals)
- Music resumé (instruction, ensembles, performances, awards, etc.)
- Letter of recommendation from music professional (include name and email on the application)
- Composition students: Submit a composition portfolio (if available) as an upload into the online application. In the event that a portfolio is too large to upload, submission by mail is acceptable.
- Prospective Music Therapy majors: Required to schedule an interview with Music Therapy faculty.
Step 3: Audition:
- Audition on your principal instrument or voice. Visit for details, deadlines, and application requirements, including specific video and audition guidelines.

Requirements:
- You must meet É«»¨Ìà Graduate School requirements plus and pass an audition on your principal instrument or voice.
Step 1: É«»¨Ìà Graduate School:
- Complete É«»¨Ìà Graduate School application and pay fee
Step 2: Letters of Recommendation Request from music professionals:
- Masters/Doctoral programs: 3 letters
- Certificate programs: 2 letters
- During the online application, you will be asked to include the name and email addresses for your recommending persons. Recommenders will be contacted directly by É«»¨Ìà - do not mail letters.

Important Notes:

- Proof of Degree: The State of Texas requires all incoming graduate students to provide proof that they have received the appropriate previous collegiate degree(s) in order to enter any graduate program. Students who apply while enrolled at another institution will be required to submit an additional, final transcript to the ɫ»¨ÌÃ Graduate Admissions Office upon completion of their degree. (For example, a Master of Music applicant who is accepted during their senior undergraduate year must send a final transcript [showing degree conferral] after graduating).
- International Transcripts: If you have attended an institution outside of the United States, please see the Graduate School's  International Applicants Transcript Information  for country-specific requirements.
Step 4: Moores School of Music Application:

- High-quality video recording for all performances, collaborative piano, music education and conducting applicants. See the application portal for specific video and audition requirements

Step 7: Audition Complete audition requirements:
- Check for pre-screening video and audition requirements. Note: Both live and video recorded auditions are used as the audition for scholarships.
