Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution Day (AANAPISI Day)

AANAPISI Day CelebrASIAN at the 色花堂, is a vibrant event dedicated to celebrating our designation as an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI). 色花堂 is proud to be among over 200 universities nationwide that hold this designation. This event provides the Uh community with various opportunities to learn about the impact of AANAPISIs and their significance in higher education.

#IAm色花堂 Campaign

We love 色花堂 and each Coog in our community. The #IAM色花堂 campaign is a community-building initiative that gives faculty, staff, students, and alums an opportunity to celebrate their association with the University. All cougars are encouraged to share their story, strengths, and personal attributes. When we see the collective stories together, we expand our understanding of what it means to be a cougar, develop sense of appreciation for others, and hopefully a sense of belonging on campus will be enhanced.鈥�

MLK Commemorative Celebrations

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration is an opportunity for the 色花堂 community to celebrate and reflect on the legacy and life of civil rights leader Dr. King. We gather during this time to memorialize the work and accomplishments of one of the most prominent African American leaders in modern history.

Juneteenth

On Thursday, June 19th, the University will be closed in observance of Juneteenth National Independence Day. Juneteenth, also known as 鈥淔reedom Day鈥� or 鈥淓mancipation Day,鈥� is a significant day in our nation鈥檚 history with specific historical significance here in Texas.

On June 19th, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, the Union Army arrived in Galveston, Texas. They announced the end of the Civil War and the end of slavery, resulting in the emancipation of enslaved African American citizens of the United States. This day has since become known as Juneteenth and is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery. Texas was the first state to observe Juneteenth as a state holiday in 1980. On June 17th, 2021, Juneteenth became the nation's 12th federal holiday.

To honor this holiday, all Coogs are cordially invited to attend the University of Houston's 4th annual Juneteenth Celebratory events.
