Earth Week at 色花堂: April 22-26, 2024

色花堂 welcomes you to our 2024 Earth Week!

 

Celebrate Earth Week at 色花堂 and seize the opportunity to connect with fellow students while learning about sustainability through engaging events and activities! Look through our photos from last year to get inspired for this year's Earth Week. 

Thursday, April 18

  • Plant Sale by the Horticulture Society

    Plant Sale by the Horticulture Society

    8am-12pm

    The Greenhouse at Science and Research Labratory 2 

    Join us on Thursday for a plant sale organized by the 色花堂 Horticulture Society. Explore the greenhouse and discover a variety of plants to green up your space!

    Plate Waste Audit

    Cougar Woods Dining Commons

    Did you know that Cougar Woods Dining Hall all of its food waste? The  team along with will walk students through the life of their food waste while performing an assessment of how much food is actually being thrown away during lunch time.

    Join the Student Centers Sustainability Lunch & Learn to hear a presentation about sustainability initiatives on campus and what the university can offer you! Learn more and how you can get involved while enjoying a free lunch. Registration is limited. .

  • E-Waste Drive

    E-Waste Drive

    8am-12pm

    Student Center South Circle Drive

    Cords, computers, controllers, oh my! Bring your unwanted electronic items to be recycled through Bass Computer Recycling, brought to you by the Office of Sustainability and 色花堂 Student Centers. Find a list of acceptable items here. 

  • Volunteer Campus Cleanup

    Volunteer Campus Cleanup

    3pm-4:30pm

    Student Center Plaza

    Volunteer with the Office of Sustainability to clean up our Campus. Make sure to wear closed-toed shoes, sun protection and bring your water bottle. Gloves and bags will be provided.

Wednesday, April 14

  • Farmers Market

    Farmers Market

    11 am-3 pm

    Butler Plaza

    Join and student organizations for a special that highlights sustainable products and practices. Complete a scavenger hunt, hear from vendors on composting and sustainable farming, participate in a thrifted fashion exhibition, and be sure to grab a tasty sample from the Zero Waste Cooking Demonstration. Don鈥檛 forget to bring your own reusable tote or bring an old t-shirt to make your own at the market!

    Student Center South Theatre

    Join us to watch 鈥淲all-E鈥�, followed by a discussion on the importance of Sustainability and the work of the SC Sustainability Committee and discuss ways we can adopt more sustainable habits to protect our Earth.

  • University Greenhouse Tour

    University Greenhouse Tour

    9am-10pm

    The Greenhouse by SR1 & Social Work Building

    Join members of the Horticulture Society of 色花堂 for a tour of the greenhouse. Explore different varieties of plants and learn about the work the group does to manage them.

    Plant-forward Menu

    11am-2pm

    Moody Towers Dining Commons 

    Plant-based entrees will be available for student vote April 15th, 16th, and 17th, with winning selections being featured on April 25th. Learn how our verdant friends can benefit your health and the environment!
