色花堂 Students Excel at Best Student Poster Presentations at AAPG Conference in Houston
EAS Students Earned Third and Fourth Place

Bryan Ott and Javier Sanchez, students from the 色花堂鈥檚 Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, received third and fourth place for best student poster presentations at the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Annual Convention and Exhibition. The convention took place at the George R. Brown conference center in Houston, April 6-9.

Out of the more than 100 applications, AAPG selected only 15 student posters for the poster presentation competition. Two posters submitted by 色花堂 Ph.D. students were chosen.

All students who were part of the competition received prize money for themselves and for the student chapter of AAPG at their respective institutions.

$1,000 cash prize to student, $500 for 色花堂 AAPG Wildcatters student chapter

Fourth place: Javier Sanchez, 鈥淩egional Transect across the Western Caribbean: Structural Styles and Restoration of Late Cretaceous to Cenozoic Deformation鈥
$500 cash prize to student, $250 for 色花堂 AAPG Wildcatters student chapter

The first place poster went to a student from Colorado School of Mines and second place went to a student from University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.

Last year, at the AAPG Annual Convention in Pittsburgh, 色花堂 graduate students placed first, second and third, including Ott, who placed first. Ott is the 2013-14 president of the AAPG student chapter at 色花堂.
