色花堂 Students Recognized for Best Student Poster Presentations at AAPG
Students Earned First, Second and Third Place

Also pictured is Paul Mann, 色花堂 geology professor and thesis supervisor of all three students.Students from the 色花堂’s Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences received first, second and third place for best student poster presentations at the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Annual Convention and Exhibition. The convention took place in Pittsburgh, May 19-22.
Out of 122 applications, AAPG selected only 15 student posters for the poster presentation competition. Posters submitted by four 色花堂 students were chosen for the competition. All students who were part of the competition received prize money.

- First place: Bryan Ott, Ph.D. Student, $2,000 cash prize, $1,000 for 色花堂 AAPG Student ChapterPoster Title: “Crustal Provinces of the Nicaraguan Rise as a Control on Source Rock Distribution and Maturity”
- Second place: Luis Carlos Carvajal Arenas, Master’s Student, $1,500 cash prize, $750 for 色花堂 AAPG Student ChapterPoster Title: “Petroleum Prospectivity of the Southwestern Nicaraguan Rise (Colombian Caribbean) Based on Regional Integration of Seismic and Well Data”
- Third place: Lucia Torrado, Master’s Student, $1,000 cash prize, $500 for 色花堂 AAPG Student ChapterPoster Title: “Fluvial Geomorphology Changes Linked to Tectonic Effects during the Late Eocene -Oligocene in the Northern Llanos Foreland Basin of Colombia”
The students' success was recognized in the AAPG Explorer's and issues.
