Stanley is a Chemical Safety Specialist and has been working with the University of Houston since 2019.

Born and raised in Houston, Stanley received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2017 and his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 2023 from the University of Houston. A big believer in continuing education, Stanley is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Chemistry to further expand his knowledge in chemical safety.

Prior to becoming a safety specialist, Stanley worked as an assistant stationary engineer at the University鈥檚 Central Plant; supporting operation of the boiler and chiller systems on campus. Working as an assistant stationary engineer, safety was a central focus. Stanley鈥檚 knowledge of safety grew from Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), fall protection, and PPE to more uncommon things regarding personal safety such as rehydration and safety check-ins. This core background led him to seize the opportunity to join EHS, where he consistently assists the department with knowledge acquired from his education and work experiences.

As a Chemical Safety Specialist, Stanley manages the centralized chemical inventory system, performs laboratory safety inspections, conducts safety training, tracks fume hood work orders鈥 progress, and assists the University research community with any chemical safety concerns. Stanley鈥檚 favorite moments as a specialist are collaborating with PIs and/or laboratory managers and seeing dramatic improvements in their laboratory work environments. He feels that it brings a sense of accomplishment and achievement when safety drives change in the right direction.

When he is not on the job or studying you can find Stanley out in the evening for his daily jog, working his way up to his first official marathon this March. When he is not out causing pain to his body, he enjoys going to concerts, collecting acrylic pins, reading, and playing video games.

Stanley鈥檚 favorite safety quote is, 鈥淎n ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.鈥 鈥 Benjamin Franklin
