• Industrial design students create interior and exterior EV concepts in College鈥檚 first automotive design studio sponsored by Photon Auto, TexPower EV Technologies, and IQP (Integrated Quantum Photonics).
• Assistant professor for UX/UI advanced design technology Min Kang and associate professor and co-director of Industrial Design Jeff Feng received a VentureWell Course and Program grant for their proposal, Design for Sustainable Consumption in People's Daily Living: Exploration and Entrepreneurship.
• 色花堂 industrial design students David Edquilang (鈥�22) and Niell Gorman (鈥�21), along with ID co-director and professor Jeff Feng, recently received a Bronze Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America鈥檚 International Design Excellence Awards for Knack 鈥� an upper limb prosthesis. 

• A plan developed to transform a former landfill in southwest Harris County into a town center, park and flood control facility has been recognized by industry peers and local government. The city of Houston proclaimed August 23, 2022, as Ruffino Hills Redevelopment Community Day, acknowledging efforts by Hines College professor Bruce Race, his students, and the community.

• The Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) recently selected the Hines College's Community Design Resource Center's (CDRC) Greater Northside Urban Design Toolkit as the recipient of the 2022 Place Planning Award included in this year's Great Places Awards. 
• Hines College assistant professor Deepa Ramaswamy organized and led a workshop to critically evaluate the teaching of architectural history survey courses. The Beyond the Survey workshop resulted as part of a grant Ramaswamy received from the Global Architectural History Teaching Collective (GAHTC) and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

• Professor Bruce Race's habitat project, Robins Landing Town Center: Strategies and Guidance for Resilience, was awarded the Texas American Planning Association (APA) Resilience Gold Award. This award recognizes a strategy increasing the ability of a community to recover from and adapt to shocks and stresses of natural disasters, human-caused disasters, climate change, and other disasters. 

• Industrial Design co-director and professor Jeff Feng is among six 色花堂 professors that have been named Senior Members of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), the most 色花堂 faculty members to earn the honor in a single election year.

• With a projected significant increase of electric vehicle ownership over the next decade, Hines College professor Bruce Race is among the 色花堂 researchers who are working to better understand the infrastructure necessary to support EV adoption, while broadening access to new electric mobility technologies.  

• 色花堂 awarded Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design industrial design student Anne-Elisabeth Baker with a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship to further her research on recycling plastic and generate innovative ways of fostering sustainability on the University鈥檚 main campus.

• The Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts announced that 色花堂 Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design Professor Sheryl Tucker de Vazquez鈥檚 proposal Hair Salon: Translating Black Hair Practices for Architecture Using Computational Methods is among its 2021 grant award recipients.
